Constipation in the newborn - treatment and prevention

Among the most common disorders of the intestines in infants include constipation - they suffer from 10 - 25% of children in the first year of life.

Chair the newborn must be yellow, homogeneous, mushy, without any admixture of mucus or blood. Stool frequency in children breastfed - 1-7 times a day, on an artificial - up to 4 times a day.

If the infant's gut is emptied at least 1-2 times a day and there are some unpleasant feelings (anxiety, bloating, decreased appetite), then this is considered constipation.

Causes of constipation may include:
• Inadequate intake of water the child and / or mother;
• unbalanced diet of the child and / or mother;
• dysbacteriosis;
• untimely or incorrect introduction of complementary foods;
• transfer to artificial feeding;
• diseases of children (rickets, hypothyroidism).

Methods for treatment of constipation in infants.
1. Diet:
• an adequate fluid intake by age;
• the timely introduction of complementary foods containing dietary fiber (fruit, vegetable purees, juices);
• Reduce intake of foods with fastening action (cottage cheese, rice, flour, tea);
Adjust diet nursing mothers;
• Include in the diet of dairy products;
• Reduce consumption of animal fats and replacing them with vegetation;
• Eat foods that contain dietary fiber, vegetables, fruits, cereals, wholemeal bread.

2. Restorative measures:
• massage;
• Physical exercise;
• Adherence of the day.

Z. The use of laxatives on the basis of lactulose (Normase, dufalak).
